Forging Alliances in the Maga Media Ecosystem

A Controversial Partner

The former PM's foray to bring the pro-Trump media model to the United Kingdom has drawn her nearer to controversial figures such as Solomon.

He established the platform following criticism when allegations surfaced of promoting misleading narratives about Biden's anti-corruption work in Ukraine, as well as contentious articles about ex-ambassador to the region.

These allegations were echoed across the pro-Trump media, with Solomon appearing as a regular guest on Sean Hannity's influential cable news broadcast. The former president personally promoted Solomon's reporting.

The journalist published the reports about Ukraine in a series of columns for the publication The Hill, where he was re-labelled as a columnist when staffers raised concerns about his work. His narratives were central in the then-president's request for the officials in Kyiv to investigate the Bidens in 2019. These actions led to articles of impeachment against the president. The Senate later voted to acquit the president.

Shortly after Solomon left the publication in October 2019, the outlet revealed it was performing a examination of his work about the Ukraine issue. It determined the journalist had cited questionable informants and noted he "did not disclose crucial information about key Ukrainian sources, such as the fact that they had been formally accused or were under investigation."

Becoming Part of the Sphere

Solomon's own TV and radio guest spots are a sign of the conservative ecosystem Liz Truss is joining. A Global Media Play

While Truss's stilted style and political travails have drawn derision in Britain, certain American analysts are not discounting her efforts to rebrand as a local version of the pro-Trump media ecosystem.

"One must regard individuals such as her seriously, although you may not want to take them literally," stated a Democratic strategist, who served in the Biden administration.

"You saw how in 2024 the former president used that media network to get his message out. Certainly that network transmits and affects conversation abroad. It seems quite apparent to me that the circumstances in the Britain are similar to what enabled this non-mainstream media network to prosper in America."

Professor Alan Finlayson, said the internet-based conservative network was already having an impact in Britain.

"Digital media transcends national boundaries," he said. "There is a certain milieu within which ideas travel – on occasion taking an extreme form and occasionally in softer tones – but which is connected."

The academic said the growth of the online right in the UK recently meant the "chance to have a growing impact is substantial."
